James Corden seems to have taken his return to Britain in his stride – in fact, he has revealed he has become obsessed with doing 10,000 steps per day.

The Gavin & Stacey star, 45, also hinted he could be ready to quit boozy nights out. He said he has started getting health conscious after enjoying a break from work since leaving Los Angeles where he hosted The Late Late Show for eight years. On hitting his steps target, he said: “Sometimes, once the kids are asleep, I’ll look and I’m at 8,000 and I’ll be like, ‘Babe, I’m just going to go’. And I’ll literally walk up and down the road.”

James, who has three children – aged 12, nine and six – with wife Julia, also told author Jay Shetty on the On Purpose podcast sleep is an “extraordinary gift”, saying: “I’m probably more aware of it now because I’ve got a 12-year-old who seems to think sleep is some sort of punishment.”

James, who has moved back to London, added: “I very rarely drink at home. But if I go out, I love the feeling of being three-and-a-half drinks in… I can feel it in my knees. “I’m going to try to stop doing that. I spoke to [a friend] and I was like, ‘How did you manage to stop doing this?’. He said, ‘I started to ask how much of tomorrow do I want to borrow?’.”

James, who was also in TV drama series Fat Friends, added of boozing: “It’s like going to a cashpoint and you’re going, ‘I’m going to withdraw three hours from tomorrow that I will be useless’. I want to try and just be healthier.”
